Project description – Establishment of a Project Management Unit within the uMfolozi TVET College environment that is responsible for the implementation of all Artisan development projects, Occupational programmes, Learnerships and Skills programmes respectively. The scope included conducting a project maturity assessment of the project’s unit, designing new Business and Operating Models for the PMU, a Financial Model, and an Organisational Structure.
Project description – Establishment of a Project Management Unit within the uMfolozi TVET College environment that is responsible for the implementation of all Artisan development projects, Occupational programmes, Learnerships and Skills programmes respectively. The scope included conducting a project maturity assessment of the project’s unit, designing new Business and Operating Models for the PMU, a Financial Model, and an Organisational Structure.
Key deliverables: Establish a Project Management Unit to administer of Project portfolio of R 200 million for Occupational Programmes, Technical Training Centres, and Skills training amongst others. Formalise Project Management activities in the College according to Project Management best practise for all projects implemented through the establishment of a Project Management Unit that will administer and support the projects portfolio of the college. Have accountability and visibility on the projects undertaken by the College. Delineate project implementation from day-to-day operations of the College.
Outcomes:
Successfully established a new projects management system, which included:
- Operational PMU with a governance framework. ( Reporting templates, PM Tools, dashboards etc.)
- Improved efficiency in project planning, monitoring, and execution across multiple programmes.
- Increased capacity to manage large-scale skills development initiatives effectively.
Impact: Empowered uMfolozi TVET College to achieve its strategic goals in skills development through a well-structured and efficient project management environment.
